Freelance illustrators have a unique set of professional interests that set us apart from staff artists, graphic designers and others. We've created the IPA to address these interests. Our membership terms reflect our effort to combine broad representation
with high objective professional standards. Your membership will help
us represent our industry and create a national network for sharing information.
From our beginning as a grassroots movement in 1998 to our current efforts,
we've worked to preserve the integrity of our craft and affect positive
change. We welcome applications from illustrators, educators, students,
and supporters of the illustration industry. We invite you to join us
and help build the IPA. Annual dues are $200. General membership in the IPA is available to freelance illustrators who have produced five (5) commissioned illustrations published within a one (1) year period, or eight (8) commissioned illustrations published in a two (2) year period. 1. Periodicals: Periodicals of general circulation readily available on newsstands regionally or nationwide such as a regional publication, major trade publication, major consumer publication, or major Internet magazine. 2. Books: Jacket or interior illustrations published in a book by an established American publisher. 3. Advertising, Promotional and Product: Illustrations for advertisements, promotions, collateral pieces, merchandise or in-house publications for a client producing a nationally or regionally distributed product or service. 4. Annual dues are $50. This category is open to students currently enrolled in an accredited illustration program. Student Members may renew their student membership classification for up to 3 years after graduation, at which time General Membership qualifications must be met.
